Here's a thought:
If both your Best friend and Girlfriend/wife fell in the river and you can only save one.. who would it be?
For me I would definitely save my wife, that's because my best friend would understand.

I'd jump in, aiming to save the best friend. Let the wife die. She'll be at peace finally.
Given my swimming handicap, we'd probably all end up drowning anyway. So everyone's happy
I would stand on the side of the river throwing small bits of bread.
If I'm lucky, I'll drown in a river that doesnt have floating bits of brown diamonds
as long as the stash doesnt get wet..we're good to go.
